Chamber Music Karaoke

Calling all musicians!

Ever wanted to play through a particular piece of chamber music but couldn't find the right opportunity? Got an aria in your back pocket that you've always wanted to belt out in front of an audience? Well, this is the perfect evening for you! This evening is about the joy of chamber music and meeting those who share the same excitement.  Come with your favorite tunes and a few friends, or just come grab a drink and enjoy the music!

What to expect

Think of this like your favorite karaoke bar -  we will gather to hang and enjoy each other’s company, and if you want to play, you can sign up with your group (or on your own!) to be added to the queue. Our friendly ECM staff and volunteers will be there to help you at the sign-up stand!

Don’t have a pre-formed group but you're excited to read a certain piece of music with new friends? No worries - we will collect the list of individuals ahead of the event and help match you others to play with!

Don’t want to play? No problem! Just come to hang out at our 415 On Westlake space with a drink in hand, meet new music-loving friends, and enjoy the vibe!

If you want to participate in the reading, bring your instruments and music (physical or digital). We will have a few tablets with page turning pedals on-hand to load music onto if desired, and a piano will be available on-site (pianist not included :)

FAQ

Do I have to play  or sing?
Nope! Think of it as going to any karaoke bar, where you can just come to socialize and enjoy the performances. There will be non-alcoholic drinks, snacks and board games provided as well (with a cash bar for alcoholic drinks) – and you are welcome to bring any of your own favorite games!

What if I want to participate but don’t play any instruments?
Our MC of the evening will have surprise group activities throughout the night, so you can participate without having any musical background!

What if I don’t have a group?
Don’t worry! You can sign up as an individual and request to be put into a group (you can do this when you buy a ticket), or you can simply sign up for a piece when you come and see who else is down to play as well. We can help connect you with people for the instrumentation needed for your piece.

If someone who plays my instrument has already signed up for a piece, does that mean I can’t play it?
No! More than one group can play the same piece if they want. You can also have more than one person play on a part if that is something everyone in the group is okay with.

Can more than one person play a piece (more than one per part)?
Only if your group is open to that, otherwise the assumption is that pieces will be played for the instrumentation it is written for.

Do I have to have a piece already prepared?
You are welcome to come with a piece you are already working on, but there is no pressure to have something performance-ready! If you just want to sight-read new repertoire, that is totally encouraged!

Can I play more than one piece?
Yes! Sign-ups will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We may re-assign groups in order to ensure everyone has an equal chance to play something, but you are welcome to play as much (or as little) as you feel up to!

Will there be a piano?
Yes, there will be a baby grand piano available on site.

Can I bring more than one instrument?
Absolutely!

What does my ticket price cover?
ECM is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and all proceeds from this event go towards operating costs such as renting venues and staffing our events. Thank you for supporting Emerald City Music!
