Described by Libération as “a rare virtuoso of the flute,” Sooyun Kim is recognized as one of today’s rare flute soloists. She made her concerto debut at age ten with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and has since appeared with leading ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Boston Pops, and KBS Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared in recital performances in major venues such as Liszt Hall in Budapest, the Kennedy Center, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Kobe’s Bunka Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center. Her European debut recital at the Louvre Museum was broadcast live on medici.tv.

A recipient of the Georg Solti Foundation Career Grant, Kim has earned numerous international honors, including third prize and a special award at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. An avid chamber musician, she is an alumna and Artist Member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Bowers Program and regularly appears at festivals like Music@Menlo, Camerata Pacifica, Chamber Music Northwest and Tanglewood.

She studied at the New England Conservatory and is currently Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She performs on a rare custom 18-karat gold made for her by Powell flute. Her critically acclaimed album Confluence was released in 2025. Beyond music, Kim has also earned her WSET Level 3 certification in Wine.
